I’m Annette Houghtling, and I specialize in working with people who have Bipolar Disorder. I’ve been helping people who have bipolar, and their families, for six years.
My Services Include:
Customized individual counseling for people who have bipolar who want to learn an effective process for managing the disorder.
Supportive individual counseling for family members of people who have bipolar disorder.
Couple counseling (including premarital counseling) to help couples learn how to thrive with bipolar disorder as an aspect of their relationship.
Family counseling, so family members can better understand bipolar and learn how to support their loved one.
It’s Easy to Work with Me:
I offer daytime and evening appointments during the week, and also Saturday appointments.
I am also a provider for several insurance plans and employee assistance programs – you can read more about what questions to ask your insurance company on my Rates & Insurance page.

What to Expect During the Counseling Process:
In your first session, you’ll describe the problems you’re having and the changes you’d like to make in your life.
We'll review what you’re doing now that is helpful to you, and what behaviors might be counterproductive. We will look for strengths in your life, and how those strengths can be maintained and enhanced. During your first session, we’ll also work together to decide what our priorities will be, and what we should focus on first.
For a little while, we’ll probably see each other on a weekly or an every other week basis. In those sessions, we’ll work on taking baby steps and making small shifts, so you won’t be overwhelmed by the changes you’re making, and you’ll make slow, steady, noticeable progress toward your goals.
Your treatment will be 100% customized to your specific needs.
After you’ve gotten the initial tools, skills, encouragement, and support you need, and you’re in a good place psychologically, you can continue regular maintenance sessions once a month or so, or you’re always welcome to return anytime you feel like you aren’t functioning as well. Signs of diminished functioning include increasing symptoms of depression or anxiety, feeling more stressed or worried than usual, work or relationship troubles, or difficulty following your healthy lifestyle plan.
Your Next Step:
I know that sometimes taking the first step to have a conversation with a therapist can be difficult. You may not like your diagnosis, or you may be skeptical about whether or not therapy can help you.
I understand….and I want to make it as easy as possible for you to reach out to me. You can call to schedule an appointment with me, or you can start with a free 30-minute initial consultation, to see if my services would be a good fit for you.
Either way, you can get in touch with me (via phone or email) using my Contact Me page. The form on that page goes straight into my email inbox.
I’m looking forward to speaking with you.
