What to Expect During the Counseling Process
In your first session, you’ll describe the problems you’re having and the changes you’d like to make in your life.
We'll review what you’re doing now that is helpful to you, and what behaviors might be counterproductive. We will look for strengths in your life, and how those strengths can be maintained and enhanced. During your first session, we’ll also work together to decide what our priorities will be, and what we should focus on first.
For a little while, we’ll probably see each other on a weekly basis. In those sessions, we’ll work on taking baby steps and making small shifts, so you won’t be overwhelmed by the changes you’re making, and you’ll make slow, steady, noticeable progress toward your goals.
Your treatment will be 100% customized to your specific needs.
After you’ve gotten the initial tools, skills, encouragement, and support you need, and you’re in a good place psychologically, you can continue regular maintenance sessions once a month or so, or you’re always welcome to return anytime you feel like you aren’t functioning as well. Signs of diminished functioning include increasing symptoms of anxiety and/or depression, feeling more stressed or worried than usual, work or relationship troubles, or difficulty following your healthy lifestyle plan.
